While fidgeting with Firelights rule sor the Firelights jam I ran into completely reversing th way the game uses cards and dice. Pushing further I ended up with Into the draw.

This system used 52 cards to compose a player's hand, working against 2d6 opposition. A advantage/hinder mechanics helped pushing further character's customization. And beause this system is solo compatible there is a way to answer closed questions and of course an oracle with multiple ways to read it.

Honestly this is pretty awesome. By flipping the dice and cards around you've essentially added a lot more choice and room for strategy into the game.

My only real nitpick is you could do so much more with this structure, for example you could have each suit have different effects and strengths/weaknesses against certain obstacles, and make the player balance between keeping a variety of suits versus just going for high numbers. You could have certain restrictions for creating "combos" (chains of multiple successes) but have them deal much more damage.

There's also a little vagueness in the rules about when you should begin and end a turn... not a major issue, it's easy enough to interpret that a turn consists of 1 opposition roll, but still.

Overall it's a really clever idea with a lot of potential. If you ever pick this up again I'd be really excited to see how it develops. Honestly I just want to homebrew the heck out of it and fuse it with the dice tower idea I'm working on xD

You're right about the lack of details about how to define a turn's end, I think I had it pictured in my mind but failed to completely right it down. You guessed right though, it's just one opposition roll.

I never thought about combos, but now I can see how I can extend this part to add more flavour, it's a neat idea, be sure I'll try to make it to a v2.

I should write an AP using this system, I know at least one person uses it and loves it, but I only tested on small oneshots myself. Maybe it's time for a new round.
